本作是一款以二戰時期的日本帝國海軍軍艦為題材的模擬遊戲，推出以來就在動漫、遊戲和 COS 圈掀起了一陣狂潮。遊戲中將驅逐艦、巡洋艦、戰列艦等軍艦擬人化成為「艦娘」，將她們編成、育成、強化，目標是成為無敵聯合艦隊。
